The Time and Money Group was founded as a vehicle that its founder, me, could use to share my travels along the treacherous pathway to financial freedom. Unfortunately my journey has not been a rapid one. My achievement has taken nearly 20 years. That included a couple of unsuccessful entrepreneurial ventures and a substantial stock portfolio loss during the internet bubble years. I believed, like most, the generally accepted perception of financial freedom. That being that it is a life of leisure supported by a couple of million dollars in the bank. In retrospect, I was financially free in 2000, but didn’t realize it because of that warped definition. As the stock market losses pile up, I continued taking unnecessary risks. By the end of that year, my portfolio was nearly wiped out. My dream had been deferred once again.
It would be several years later and a major shift in thinking before the goal would be resurrected. My major epiphany was realizing that financially free people simply think differently than the masses. Financial freedom doesn’t require millions of dollars. As long as you have enough to cover your yearly expenses and a method to replenish your coffers, you are there. That sounds sort of like a job. However, even using that as a definition only a few working people would meet the criteria. Most need a job and a couple credit cards to make ends meet. Now, let’s take a look at my definition of financial freedom.
Financial Freedom is freedom to focus on what is truly important to you and your family without having to trade time for a wage. It is enabled by a portfolio of income producing assets, managed by you, which generates sufficient income to cover your yearly expenses on an ongoing basis. It provides both time and money.
That is significantly different than the commonly accepted definition, but much more achievable. It requires that your days be spent maximizing the return on your eBay business, rental properties or other assets. Unfortunately, it is no life of leisure. However, the intent is to generate your income in far fewer hours than the standard 9 to 5. If structured correctly the revenue will continue to come in while vacationing or on the golf course. So financial freedom is not retirement, but it is the next best thing.
Our goal, at The Time and Money Group, is to encourage the pursuit of financial freedom. Far too often, dreams are pushed aside as the next raise or promotion is pursued. Although the advancements provide more money, ironically there is less time to enjoy it. Also, we want to accelerate your achievement. Once I redefined financial freedom, it only took 18 months to achieve.
OK, so how do we realize our goals? I have rewritten this message several times and the part about me working in sales for ten years didn’t make the final cut. One of these days I will write a few posts on sales. Sales are the lifeblood of all businesses including your financial freedom business. That being said, what are we selling here. Currently the product page is empty, but several products and services are in the works. When the time is right, we hope that you will become a customer. However, this forum is free and will remain that way. It will consist of posts and articles by myself and others on how to achieve my definition of financial freedom. The intent is for this web site to become a repository of information to put you on the fast track to becoming financially free. So, bookmark this page, visit frequently and let’s make it happen.
